Michael has been practicing and instructing as a Certified Amma Therapist, Massage Therapist & Wholistic Health practitioner since 1994. Michael holds a BA in Professional Studies (Amma) from the New York College for Health Professionals. Michael is a Certified T’ai Chi Yang Style instructor. He is also a Dual Certified Triathlon Coach creating training and nutrition programs for beginners to professionals.
As a practitioner, Michael uses both Amma Therapy and Swedish styles of Bodywork, as well as nutrition and lifestyle recommendations to help people to wake their own innate health. Michael specializes in all sports related concerns and injuries, dysfunctions within the immune system, respiratory system, digestion, sleep, as well as cancer recovery, and emotional imbalances that affect the physical health of the patient.
Michael strives to meet his clients where they are, with respect to their health goals, and moves at a pace that is within their ability, to create truly sustainable balance.

Carole Freeman MS, CHt
Passionate about nutrition most of her life, Carole is a graduate of Bastyr University with dual Masters of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology and a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition from Bastyr University.
In addition, she has completed additional training in Foundations of Functional Nutrition through the Nutrition Therapy Association and NeuroNutrient Therapy from The NeuroNutrient Therapy Institute in Mill Valley, CA. She is a Registered Hypnotherapist in Washington state, earned her Certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy from The Wellness Institute in Issaquah, WA and is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists. Additionally, she has completed numerous classes at Bastyr University in herbal medicine, therapeutic and whole foods cooking, children’s nutrition and mental health.
She is the owner of Hypnotic Nutrition, a nutrition clinic in Bothell, WA, located north of Seattle. Her practice specializes in the intersection of psychology and nutrition, helping clients that struggle with food and eating issues through individual therapy, group programs, and whole foods cooking classes.
Jennie King, LAc, MAcOM, LMT (#7221)
Jennie received her Master’s degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Her curriculum included acupuncture, Chinese herbology, zen shiatsu, qigong and 700 clinical hours of internship. She is also certified to teach 1,000 Hand Buddha Qigong and Eight Treasures through the Ling Gui School of Qigong. After graduation, Jennie spent time in Nepal as a volunteer for the non-profit Acupuncture Relief Project (ARP).
Currently, Jennie works in two locations in Portland, Oregon, in addition to teaching at the Wellspring School. She has a general private acupuncture and Chinese medicine practice on Hawthorne Blvd. She also specializes in women’s health and fertility at the Blossom Clinic on Fremont Ave.
In addition to her Chinese medical degree, Jennie has ten years of massage experience. Before her journey into the world of health and healing Jennie received her bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from The Ohio State University. She is committed to being a lifelong student and continues her studies through a variety of classroom and work settings, as well as her yoga, and qi gong practices.
Wendy Knight, DC
Dr. Wendy Knight graduated from Oregon State University with her Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise and Sports Science in 2000. She earned her certification in athletic training in 2002 and has worked with a wide variety of athletes ranging from young children to professional and olympic athletes.
In 2004 Dr. Wendy graduated from AIU with a Master’s of Education. She taught sports medicine and advanced sports medicine at South Salem High School for four years, where she was also the head athletic trainer. In 2007 she moved to Illinois where she worked as the head athletic trainer for Warren High School. She returned to school in 2009, graduating in 2012 with her Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine from National University.
Realizing how much she missed the great Northwest, she returned to Oregon in 2013 furthering her career at the University of Western States as a Chiropractic Sports Medicine Fellow. During her fellowship she earned her certification as a Chiropractic Sports Physician and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Dr. Wendy specializes in sports injuries and uses Selective Functional Movement Assessments (SFMA) to evaluate patients to determine how they are moving. She is currently employed at Allied Chiropractic in Hillsboro.
In her free time, Dr. Wendy enjoys outdoor activities with her boyfriend such as camping, hiking, running, and bungee jumping. She has a passion for nutrition, herbal supplements, and working out. She is a proud parent of an active duty soldier in the Army and enjoys spending time with her son whenever he is on leave.
Polly Maliongas, MACOM, Dipl. OM (NCCAOM), LAc

Polly brings over 15 years of energy healing studies to her practice and classes at the Wellspring School. She graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2006 and continues her connection with the school and students, providing teaching assistance in their 2nd year Qigong classes.
Polly’s path into Chinese medicine and Qigong began with a desire for personal change and an innate feeling that there was a different way to live her life. She began to explore the different moving arts and her passion awakened for the philosophy and movements of Qigong. By developing a relationship with Chinese medicine and Qigong, she feels we can experience a deep healing, acquire valuable tools for self-discovery, transform emotions, and manage stress.
Polly continues to deepen her studies with Dr. Liu Dong and Master Liu He of the Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School, where she also holds the role of school administrator. In her private practice, Polly provides healing sessions incorporating principles of Traditional Chinese and Taoist medicine including Acupuncture and Qigong TuiNa.
Bari Mandelbaum, CHN, NC
Holistic health is Bari’s passion. She believes that wellness comes from knowing our own worth, and treating ourselves with the love and care we would treat anything or anyone we love and want to see prosper. Bari is a Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Holistic Health Provider, Herbalist, and Somatics Coach. She has been the staff Clinical Nutritionist and Wellness Consultant at Wellness Revolution Health Center in Santa Clara, CA since 2005. Her areas of expertise include individual and group interventions for blood sugar dysregulation, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, hormone imbalance, low libido, digestive disorders, and autoimmune disorders.
Bari received her Bachelor’s degree with Honors from Stanford University and her four levels of nutrition credentials—Nutrition Consultant, Nutrition Educator, Diet Counselor, and Nutrition Instructor—from Bauman College. She is past Vice President of the CA chapter of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, and a former Bauman College instructor. She is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition through the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board, and registered with the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP). Bari is trained in Dr. John Brimhall, DC’s Six Steps to Wellness, Staci Haines’ Generative Somatics method, has studied guided imagery with Martin Rossman, MD and herbal medicine through the American School of Herbalism. She is a certified FirstLine TherapyTM Provider and trained in Contact Reflex Analysis, meditation, natural pain management, and Meridian Stress Assessment. Bari has been working in the field of holistic health and wellness since 2001.
Michelle E. Read, BA, LMT
Michelle E. Read, BA, LMT has been practicing massage therapy full time since 2001 when she graduated from East-West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University in 1995. She is the owner of Good Medicine Massage in NE Portland. She specializes in deep tissue, trigger point, neuromuscular, pre-natal and Swedish massage techniques. She has studied biodynamic massage and cranial therapy with Todd Jackson, myoskeletal alignment therapy with Eric Dalton, orthopedic massage with Whitney Lowe and trigger point therapy with Laurie Connolly.
She has experience working closely with chiropractors, medical doctors and naturopaths in treating injuries and chronic pain issues. She is a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals organization.
Michelle’s work is deeply intuitive, catering each session to the needs of the individual client. Her massages are therapeutic, effective and deeply relaxing.
Michelle loves the outdoors and enjoys skiing on Mt. Hood, whitewater rafting, backpacking and walking her hound dogs around the beautiful Portland parks.
Jen Stone, LMT (#9669)
Jen has been studying Qigong with Ling Gui International Qigong School for seven years. She currently is completing her final year of the Master Teacher Program. She brings her dedicated Qigong practice into her daily life, Qigong classes, and massage therapy practice. Licensed as a massage therapist since 2002, Jen began integrating Qigong and Qigong Tuina into her massage sessions, which has expanded her work.
For Jen, practicing Qigong brings about a greater sense of contentment, naturalness, and connection to one’s true nature.
Nicole Hedlund, LMT (#22159)
Nicole graduated from The Wellspring School’s Amma Therapy Program in November of 2015. Since then, Nicole has opened her own private practice and shares space with Pearl Phoenix Health within The Wellspring School. She also travels to Yachats, OR once a month, and is looking to expand into an integrative health clinic. In addition to practicing, Nicole has been assisting in many Amma technique classes, and is looking forward to instructing the next group of Amma students in 2017.
Nicole was drawn to the Amma program for its comprehensiveness and relevance to the field of healthcare. For Nicole, practicing Amma Therapy has had profound effects on her personal and professional life, and she can’t wait to share her experience and dedication with our next group of students!
Aubrey Corbett, BS
Aubrey graduated with her BS in Biology with a focus in Holistic Health in 2014 from Richard Stockton University in Pomona, New Jersey. Following graduation, she worked for a year as a substitute science teacher at various schools from grades K-12. Being from the beaches of southern New Jersey, Aubrey grew up surrounding herself with nature, understanding the healing powers of both the earth and the ocean. This passion continued to grow in her throughout her undergraduate studies and daily yoga practices until it took her all the way across the country to Portland, Oregon.
Currently, Aubrey is a student of Naturopathic Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine. While earning her degree, she is working as Dr. Ryan Chamberlin’s assistant by tutoring students in physiology, pathology and anatomy as well as performing dissections in the cadaver lab.

Bill, an ordained Taoist priest, has been studying Chinese martial and healing arts since 1965.
He specializes in Taijiquan, Tuina Chinese Bodywork, Qigong, and herbal medicine.
Bill is a 20th-generation inner disciple of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowan. He studied traditional Chinese medicine in China at the Shanghai College of Medicine and the Beijing Olympic Training Center, and in the United States with Taoist Master Share K. Lew and Dr. Yu Da Fang. Bill is the Director of the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego and the Dean of Allied Arts at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in California.

Konnie’s unique range of experience combines corporate, small business, training, coaching and a strong interest in wholistic health practices. Her corporate experience includes the management of large teams of highly skilled software developers for a Fortune 500 company, as well as all phases of software development. Her business interests have always included an emphasis on the intrapersonal professional development of individuals, and she is known as introducing techniques and programs to optimize the unique skills and abilities of her co-workers. She has managed, developed and delivered life changing training programs within the corporate environment, public offerings, and in private practice with individuals. Konnie has successfully owned and operated a day spa, and has pursued a number of techniques and approaches in the field of wholistic health.
Currently Konnie works as an IT business systems consultant in the financial industry, is a trainer and professional coach, and is a past president of the Board of Directors for the Idaho Human Rights Education Center. We look forward to some very exciting workshops from Konnie here at the Wellspring School!
Jacki Richer, BS
Jacki, a native Californian, was drawn to the PNW in early 2015, and is proud to call Portland her home! After graduating from Northern Arizona University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology & Chemistry, she moved to Toronto, where she completed one year of schooling at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She left CCNM was a newfound passion for Eastern Medicine and Taoist philosophy. After moving back to the States, Jacki completed a 200-hour Medical Qi Gong certification program that changed her outlook on life & wellness in a powerful way. Currently, Jacki is working on her Sustainability focused Masters of Business Administration from the University of Portland. She hopes to use her MBA as a tool to help businesses adopt Green Business Standards – improving the quality of life for their customers, employees, communities, and the planet!
Becoming the Office Assistant for The Wellspring School has been a great opportunity for Jacki that combines her love of education, her passion for alternative medicine, and her vast administrative experience – in a healthy and supportive work environment.
