The FODMAP Diet & IBS Management
Please note: This is a guest post from Jamie Lee, RD, LD and Elke Schleiss, RD, LD who will be leading a workshop on the FODMAP diet in our space on Tuesday, February 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The cost is $125. Here is what they’d like to share with you:
The FODMAP diet is gaining attention in the United States for its ability to minimize symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): bloating, abdominal pain, distention, diarrhea and/or constipation. The evidenced-based “learning diet” helps people identify carbohydrates that exacerbate symptoms. The carbohydrates on the FODMAP diet are known for increasing fluid (osmotic effect) and gas (fermentation) in the large intestine (colon).
The impact, experienced by up to 20% of Americans, is inconvenient and often unbearable. The FODMAP diet, developed at Monash University in Australia, has emerging research showing positive results and effectiveness; up to 75% of those who suffer with IBS find relief from uncomfortable and disruptive gastrointestinal symptoms.
We invite you attend an informative and interactive workshop at The Wellspring School for Healing Arts on Tuesday, February 3rd, to explore how the FODMAP diet can make a difference in your life or the lives of your clients.
5 Reasons to Attend:
You won’t have to navigate through all the conflicting information online. We have the most up to date information from the source, Monash University.
You’ll learn what is happening in the gut, the pathophysiology, and how high FODMAP foods negatively impact it.
You will gain meal plans and grocery shopping lists, including specific brand names, to support the diet.
We’ll teach you how to read food labels to distinguish between high vs. low FODMAP ingredients.
You will have a plan for reintroducing FODMAP foods for the most varied, liberal, pleasurable diet.
